OFFICE OF THE COUNTY
ADMINISTRATOR
The Count y Administrator's of fice is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Count y
Government. The County Administrator ensures
that the Board of Charles County Commissioner
(BoCC) policies are carried out effectively and efficiently. The office ensures the BoCC is informed
of county issues. The County Administrator works
with each department (see below) to establish
long-term and short-term goals, and ensures their
implementation. Additional offices and divisions
overseen by the Count y Administrator include
Administration, Clerk to the Commissioners,
Central Services Division, Media Services Division.
and the Internal Audit Office.
COUNTY GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS
The primary mission of the OFFICE OF THE COUNTY
ATTORNEY is to support the County Commissioners,
Count y Administrator’s Of fice, and other count y
departments, boards, and commissions by providing
legal advice, representation, and other legal assistance
for the essential tasks they perform daily.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT is an economic development organization supporting and promoting the
economic vitalit y of Charles Count y. The primar y
role of the department is to spur growth and opportunity, create an environment where businesses want
to invest in the county.
EMERGENCY SERVICES prov ide s mul t i-component ser vices that include 9-1-1 Public Safet y
Communications, Animal Care and Control, Emergency
Management, Emergency Medical Services, Hazardous
Materials Response, and False Alarm Reduction.
HUMAN RESOURCES administers a comprehensive program
providing a wide variety of human resources-related services
to Charles County departments, agencies, employees, retirees, and residents.
PL ANNING AND GROW TH MANAGEMENT provides
solutions for land development, planning, and capital
improvements in Charles County. We offer the public assistance through the regulatory process for achieving approval.
PUBLIC WORKS consists of t wo divisions. FACILITIES
is responsible for maintaining Count y owned roads and
bridges (including weather-related road conditions and snow
removal), buildings, vehicles, equipment; and managing the
landfill, recycling, and litter control. UTILITIES is responsible
for operating and maintaining water and wastewater facilities; maintaining and repairing water lines, sewer lines, and
sewer conveyance systems; and development and engineering solutions.
RECREATION, PARKS, AND TOURISM provides quality of
life services to our residents and visitors through recreation,
parks, and tourism opportunities, while preserving and protecting open spaces within the county.

COMMUNITY SERVICES serves as a primary point of
entry for a wide range of services that support county
residents. The department primarily serves as an information and service gateway for county residents, from
administering the Housing Choice Voucher program
to providing service coordination and access to longterm care programs for frail elderly, disabled persons,
and their family caregivers; and state programs that
support children, youth, and families.
FISCAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES is responsible
for the financial and technological administration by effectively and efficiently managing government fiscal operations.
Fiscal Ser vices includes Budget, Accounting, Purchasing,
Treasury, and Information Technology.
