COMPLEX
On Jul y 24, 2024, t he Char les Count y B oard of
Com mis sion e r s , along w i t h t h e D e par t m e n t of
Recreation, Parks and Tourism (DRPT), and the CCDEDD,
celebrated the purchase of the former Sears Building
for $7.5 million to create a sports and wellness complex.
• The facility aims to address the low percentage of
recreational amenities per capita in Waldorf, significantly increasing recreational opportunities for
residents.
• The project is part of a public-private partnership,
leveraging collective resources to spur investment
and enhance the community’s quality of life.
• The new complex will include a 50-meter by 25-yard
competition swimming pool with amenities such as a
splash pad, diving areas, a spa/whirlpool, sauna, and
lap pool.
• This facility aims to revitalize the unused Sears location since 2020, following successful examples of
transforming mall spaces into public use areas, like the
Annapolis Mall.
• The center is envisioned as a dynamic destination
offering recreational activities and leisure, creating a
vibrant atmosphere that benefits our community.
