RECOGNITION & ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
COLLABORATIVE COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
In early 2024, Charles County Government staff were tasked in providing recommendations on how the Board of County Commissioners
could work with residents to make improvements to the community.
Staff from the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Community
Engagement worked together to design and propose the Collaborative
Community Improvement Project.
The pilot program is designed to promote dialogue and collaboration between Board of County Commissioners, County Government
Departments, and community members to —
Provide EDUCATION about available resources
and programs that can benefit the community.
Encourage and facilitate DIALOGUE between
Charles County Government and community
members on possible needs and improvements.
Implement a MEASURABLE project that aligns
with Commissioner Goals and Objectives.
The Board of County Commissioners
approved this project and allocated
funding to suppor t its implementation. In October 2024, Br yans
Road/Indian Head (Census Tracts
8501.02 & 8502.02) was selected
as the community for this project.
In 2025, Charles Count y
Government will launch a coordinated ef for t with internal and
external stakeholders to plan and
host communit y meetings, suppor ted by additional engagement
activities such as virtual sessions,
small group discussions, and a
"Meeting in a Box" toolkit. A draf t
project plan will be shared for public
feedback, finalized based on input,
and implemented. Project completion is anticipated in 2026.
2024 TOP PERFORMER OF THE YEAR WINNERS
Our 2024 Top Performer of the Year Award goes to
five employees who went above and beyond their
duties to save a life while exhibiting the Charles
County Government core values of communication, initiative and teamwork.
On March 30, 2024, an individual at a Charles
Count y Senior Center went into cardiac distress and was unconscious and not breathing.
Responding quickly and calmly to the individual’s
distress, Karolina Krzywda, Office Associate II in
the Department of Community Services – Aging
& Human Services Division, provided CPR/AED
until paramedics arrived.
Suppor ting Karolina in her ef for ts were additional members of the Department of Community
Ser vices – Aging & Human Ser vices Division,
Carolyn Savoy, Aging Program Specialist, Renee Nesbitt
and Emma Newcomb, Program Assistants I, and Ashley
Caywood, Nutrition Aide, who took the initiative to make
necessary calls, control onlookers and administer care,
which in turn, saved the individual’s life.
