COMMISSIONERS' KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS
• Adopted a balanced budget for Fiscal Year 2025, without any increase to the current property or income tax
rate. The budget expanded investments in education,
public safety, and recreation priorities.
• Achieved highest fiscal AAA bond rating for the 8th
consecutive year, which recognizes the county’s responsible financial planning, economic development, and
budget management. The rating allows the count y to
maintain low interest rates when repaying bonds.
• Funded the acquisition of the old Sears store at St.
Charles Towne Center Mall, to convert the space into
a future sports and wellness complex , featuring a
competition-size swimming pool, aquatics programming
and other recreational amenities.
• Continued collaboration with federal and state partners
to advance funding support for the future development
of Southern Maryland Rapid Transit to Charles
County.
• Joined with other local and state leaders to celebrate the
groundbreaking for a major new Berry Pointe development project located in Waldorf. This project is set
to become the largest office, flex, R & D and retail development in the county’s history.
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
• National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)
improvements are listed. The NPDES purpose is to protect
water quality by setting limits on what can be discharged.
The NPDES requires monitoring and repor ting of discharges and helps to enforce the Clean Water Act.

Construction Commencement
• Approved a first-of-its-kind pilot called Collaborative
Community Improvement Project . The project
engages residents on their priorities regarding their specific neighborhood, implements measurable projects
that align with Commissioner Goals & Objectives, and
help foster knowledge about available resources and
programs. Commissioners selected the Br yans Road
area for the pilot, with the initiative launched in early
2025.
• Designation and suppor t of the Western Charles
Technology Corridor, which continues to yield new
investments in the count y. It strategically positions
the region as a hub for innovation, attracting over 130
technology, research, and defense-related businesses
by leveraging its proximit y to key federal installations
and a highly skilled workforce.
