THERAPEUTIC RECREATION PROGRAMS — Pre-Registration Required
Calm Cove Sensory Space
Come entertain all your senses including touch, sight, taste, sound, and smell
in a controlled and intentionally created space. The Calm Cove provides multisensory resources to support sensory needs to enable participants to engage in
fun activities. The space can be calming or stimulating depending on the needs
of those present and will be available for reservations upon request as well. Come
visit and satisfy your sensory needs with us!

Paint and Sip Social
Take an opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people, and create a finished
piece of art to take home. Our lead artist will provide step-by-step instructions
and all the necessary supplies (paint, brushes, canvas). A pre-selected painting will
be the focus of all you aspiring artists. As always, this event is open to everyone,
regardless of artistic experience or ability. It’s a great way to socialize, have fun, and
unleash your creativity!

SMASR Play for Life Adaptive Sports: Fit for All
Adaptive Gymnastics
SMASR Adapted Sport and Recreation and Charles County Therapeutic Recreation
are partnering to bring adaptive sports to our disability community! For the late
fall session, Fit For All will be the highlighted sport. This adapted fitness class is
designed to improve strength, endurance, and functional movement for daily and
vocational tasks.
Peoples with disabilities learn basic gymnastics skills on men’s and women’s gymnastics events to enhance balance, movement, and coordination in a social and
inclusive atmosphere!

SMASR Adapted Sport and Recreation and Charles County Therapeutic Recreation
are partnering to bring adaptive sports to our disability community! For the early
fall session Bocce Ball will be the highlighted sport. Bocce ball is one of the main
Special Olympic MD Sports and has a thriving team here in Charles County! Each
session will culminate with a tournament.

Ten Pin Bowling
Special Olympics Bowling is a training program to teach new bowlers the
skill of bowling and prepare experienced bowlers for competition. Athletes
and Unified Partners welcome! Bowlers can participate in the regional and
state tournament as individuals or with a Unified partner.

Community Café
This fall we are bringing back a revamped opportunity for increased involvement
and inclusion of teens and young adults with disabilities within the community.
Through the Community Cafe's for All initiative, we aim to enhance integration within
our local community. These monthly gatherings enable participants to interact in
small groups with peers, supported by division staff, fostering socialization, and
enhancing their overall well-being. Socializing with peers and enjoying community
resources offer numerous benefits.
