As the summer winds down, it's time to begin thinking about the upcoming school year! Our Community
Centers offer the Beyond the Bell Program for students in Grades 6-8. This afterschool program
offers fun activities, homework help, and social time in a safe environment. Friday Teen Hangouts
also return to our Community Centers this season and are great for 13–17-year-olds looking for a
FREE space to hang out with other teens in a relaxed yet engaging environment.
Curious about all that Recreation, Parks, and Tourism has to offer this season? Join us for our Fall Open
House on Saturday, September 27. This is a fantastic opportunity to explore our recreation centers,
pools, parks, and historic sites. Engage with staff, learn about upcoming programs, and take part
in exciting demonstrations and activities. This is the perfect chance to connect with our community
and discover the array of opportunities we have to offer.
Celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month with us this September! Don't miss our Loteria Night
on September 10. This traditional Mexican game is similar to Bingo, but full of vibrant images and
cultural charm! Our Mocktail and Salsa Dance Party returns to Waldorf Senior & Recreational Center
on September 26. Join us for an evening filled with spirited music and lively dance moves! These events
are a wonderful opportunity to embrace the rich Hispanic culture, meet new people, and enjoy the
colorful traditions the Hispanic community has to offer.
Did you know that September 24 is National Women’s Health & Fitness Day? Let's celebrate this special
occasion by taking part in one of our invigorating adult fitness offerings such as our Aqua Circuit
class or our Strong Nation program. If you prefer a more leisurely experience, take a peaceful stroll
along one of our picturesque trails. Let's keep the healthy momentum going beyond September by
assembling a team and registering for one of our fantastic adult sports leagues.
The fall season means the return of some of our most popular special events – our Trade Skills Career
Fair, Fishin’ Buddies Derby, and the Fall Baby Bazaar are all back in action this season. Event details
and more fall fun can be found on pages 10-13. Our fall youth sports leagues are registering now and
are designed to introduce players to the rules of the sport while developing skills and promoting a fun
learning environment. Your child is sure to shine in one of our basketball, indoor soccer, or volleyball
leagues! Registration ends October 15.
The cooler weather also means the homecoming of our resident bald eagles, Chandler and Hope,
to their nest in Port Tobacco River Park. Our live streaming Port Tobacco Eagle Cam allows for peak
into Chandler and Hope’s “nestorations” ahead of the upcoming nesting season. You can view the
camera live online at www.CharlesCountyParks.com/Parks/Eagle-Cam.
Spooky season is upon us! Whether visiting the Ghost Fleet of Mallows Bay, immersing yourself in
the paranormal at the Dr. Samuel A. Mudd House Museum, or learning about local legends and
lore at the Port Tobacco Historic Village, we have something that’s bound to send shivers down your
spine this season!
