Calm Cove Sensory Space
Come entertain all your senses including touch, sight, taste, sound, and smell
in a controlled and intentionally created space. The Calm Cove provides multisensory resources to support sensory needs to enable participants to engage in
fun activities. The space can be calming or stimulating depending on the needs of
those present. Come visit and satisfy your sensory needs with us! The Calm Cove is
available to reserve on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with price varying on the duration
of the reservation. Please call (301) 934-6747 to learn more.

Swimming
Swimming is one of the most popular sports in the world. Unlike other sports,
swimming is a life skill that is taught, first, to ensure safety and, secondly, for
sports and competition purposes. Aquatics covers a great variety of swimming
skills, from short sprints to longer events and relays.

Bocce
Bocce is an Italian game. The basic principle of the sport is to roll a bocce ball
closest to the target ball, which is called a palina. Bocce as a Special Olympics
sport provides people with special needs the opportunity to have social contact,
develop physically and to gain self-confidence. Next to soccer and golf, bocce
is the third most participated sport in the world.

2026 Special Olympics Spring Games
Volunteers Needed!
Charles County Special Olympics Spring Games needs volunteers for the track
and field, bocce, and swimming events, as well as for admin, awards, concessions, and other areas.
Target Games
An inclusive recreation program for youth under 14 focused on confidence, coordination, and social skills through adapted target games. Participants engage in
activities such as bocce, cornhole, and frisbee using modified equipment and rules
to support all ability levels. Emphasis is placed on skill development, cooperation,
and fun in a supportive environment. No prior experience required.
Resident Fee: $90; Non-Resident: $95

The sport of track and field encourages athletes of all abilities and ages to compete at their optimum level. Through the track-and-field-based athletics training
program, participants can develop total fitness to compete in any sport. As
with all Special Olympics sports, athletics offers athletes the opportunity to
learn through skill development and competitive settings and to be involved
in large social settings.

Volunteers should arrive by 7:30 a.m. for check-in. Follow the posted parking
signs and directional arrows. Volunteers will receive their position assignment
and training at the event. All volunteers will receive a short-sleeved volunteer
T-shirt and should wear it throughout the day for easy identification. Please wear
comfortable clothing for an outdoor sporting event, and close-toed shoes are
required. We also encourage volunteers to bring sunglasses, a hat/bandana,
and sunscreen. Please bring a photo ID for check-in and a refillable water bottle.

An inclusive cornhole program for teens and adults of all ability levels. Participants
learn basic skills, rules, and sportsmanship through structured instruction and
modified play. The program emphasizes teamwork, confidence-building, and enjoyment, and concludes with a celebration session recognizing effort and progress.
