The Summer GUIDE is Here!
Summer has arrived at the Department of Recreation, Parks, and Tourism! Whether you want to explore
new recreation offerings, splash around at our pools, immerse yourself in local history, or stretch your
legs outdoors, we have something exciting for you and your family.
Mark your calendars for an action-packed season. We are thrilled to host the Westside Summer Festival,
a fantastic way to gather with neighbors and kick off the summer. You can also celebrate Independence
Day at our pools with our All American Splash or at our Annual Fun Filled 4th event.
It is the perfect time of year to explore the great outdoors. Spend a day at Gilbert Run Park on the
paddle boats or enjoy a guided kayak tour of the Ghost Fleet at Mallows Bay Park. Our parks offer a
wide array of trails, playgrounds, and outdoor adventure for those who prefer to keep their feet on the
ground. Get outside and enjoy the fresh air with your family!
If you love the water, dive into fun with our special pool activities like the Glow Swim and the Teen
Tidal Wave. For our young competitors, the annual Youth Triathlon returns to North Point High School
in August. This special event gives kids ages 17 and younger the chance to channel their inner athlete
and swim, bike, and run on a course designed specifically for them. Start your training now and register
early to secure your space!
Our extensive summer camp offerings will keep your kids active and engaged during the break. From
day camps and nature camps to gymnastics, sports, and virtual options, we have the right fit for everyone.
Camps are filling quickly, so do not hesitate to claim your spot.
In case you missed it in the Spring GUIDE - our facilities will be soon transitioning to a convenient and
secure cashless payment system. This change will make your transactions faster and simpler, letting you
get back to enjoying all our amenities with ease! Additionally, to keep pace with rising operational costs
and inflation, we will be implementing a gradual adjustment to our fees. This helps us maintain and
enhance the facilities you love, ensuring a top-quality experience for all residents. We are dedicated to
making this transition as seamless as possible for everyone.
We hope you find something that excites you and your family in this edition of The GUIDE and can't wait
to see you this summer at our parks, recreational centers, and historic sites.
Sincerely,
Kelli Beavers , CPRP, CPM
